Fantasy minis guidance!!

Hello fellow Planet Figurerers.

I took the decision to start painting fantasy minis, whenever I want to take a break from my Napoleonic grey army.
I lately see quite a few members here that Paint fantasy minis, so I would kindly ask for their help, to guide a newbie like me.
What I would like to know is, where to purchase minis from, what scale is good for a beginner, any dedicated forums etc etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and I would like to thank you all in advance.

hi Neighbor,
I painted a few Gamesworkshop Warhammer 40K Space Marines a while ago. They are about 28 mm and plastic,there are also some unique characters made of metal a little bigger than 28 mm. They need some cleaning but have good details. There are many reference pages and forums about them.if you are interested in Space Marines I can give you some links.
I am adding a few photos to show you how the Space Marines look like.

Thanks a lot for the reply Engin. I'm mainly interested in humanoid monsters, mages etc. Hopefully there will be some help like yours around here, so it will get me started.
