The Step Into Dictatorship!

One day after the arson in the building of the German Reichstag in Berlin - the cause of which has not been completely clarified to this day...

...which the Nazis immediately blamed on their opponents, the communists and social democrats...

... on February 28, 1933, at the urging of the Nazi leaders, Reich President Paul von Hindenburg issues the so-called "Decree of the Reich President for the Protection of People and State"...:

With this decree, the constitution is suspended and all executive powers are placed in the hands of the Reich government, which is dominated by the Nazis but still has right-wing conservative ministers.

Restrictions on personal freedom, the right to freedom of expression, including freedom of the press, the right of association and assembly, encroachments on the secrecy of letters, post, telegraphs and telephones, orders for house searches and confiscations, as well as restrictions on property, including outside of the otherwise for this purpose certain legal limits are now legal!

The ordinance also provides the legal basis for an immediate wave of arrests of political opponents and henceforth for interventions of the type described against all persons and associations whose existence or activity was considered to be an obstacle to the intended reorganization of Germany in the National Socialist sense.

The Nazis triumph...:

The second part of the decree gives the Hitler government the right to intervene in the government of the states. It forms the basis for the co-ordination and centralization of the entire state structure of the German Reich in the period that followed, since it overrode any federal reserve rights.

After the so-called "seizure of power", the Reichstag elections of January 30, 1933, from which the NSdAP emerged from the strongest force and was tasked with forming a government...

...this suspension of the constitution, also known as the "Reichstagsbrandverordnung" ("Reichstag Fire Decree"), is the second important step towards Hitler's dictatorship.

One last final step will be required, the so-called "Ermächtungsgunsgesetz" ("Enabling Act") of March 24, 1933, with which the legislative and executive powers are in fact completely transferred to Adolf Hitler...:

Abroad one sees more clearly, as the caricatures shown here show...

Two months, a compliant president and just two laws were enough to legally transform German democracy into a bloody dictatorship.

Something like this can happen again at any time. Everywhere! Trump had come a long way down that road. And he makes no secret of the fact that he wants to complete it if the US-Americans vote for him again.

I disagree that this can happen "anytime anywhere" - this is IMHO oversimplification of the history of Germany and much more of the current situation in the US. MentioningTrump when you talk about Hitler is a very doubtful and inflammatory political statement. As Germans we should have learned to curb our dogma, Martin!! The world and this forum don't need it. Cheers and still best wishes to your wife and relatives.

Gotta drag Trump in because he's just like Hitler. WTF. That comparison sucks and is insulting. I like your history pieces normally but that was bullshit.

Maybe specific comparisons are debatable, however, what I take from it is that democracy is something that should be vigilantly kept and maintained!
My mother used to tell me that back in 1960's Israel, her father, a Dachcau survivor, used to tell her: "look around you, even here, among us, Jews who were themselves victims of the Nazis, with the fitting and right circumstances, a fascist dictatorship might rise"

Cheers,

Benny

Hi Guys

Don't forget you have the PM facility to discus things if you wish

Hi Kev,
the guidelines of this forum have recently - and rightfully - been brought up in regard to political posts. (There is no historical connection between Trump and Hitler - this is just a political statement.) If these rules are not respected I do not wish to use PM but would prefer a mod taking action. I am aware that your job is a thankless one at the moment. Cheers Martin
