In the life of a soldier a few moments are anticipated as the arrival of mail from home, but not always correspond to this expectation good news. It is the case of this of this Gebirgsjäger the 5th Mountain Division of the Wehrmacht (Feldpost code 32264) which has just received a mail from Dresden in months after the terrifying bombardment of beginning of 1945.
Certainly the mail could not, because of censorship, contain too many details or information that could undermine the morale of the fighters, but who wrote was obviously able to let him understanding that some grievous mourning happens in the soldier's family.
The 5th Gebirgsjäger division was stationed in northern Italy in the winter of 1944-45 and it is in a corner with an old, simple, cross as there are many along our mountain's roads, the soldier opens and reads the mail, leaving then drop the envelope and remained looking to the sky , as happens to all of us in similar circumstances.
Piece in 54mm enclosed to an old release of Hobby abd work publisher. Hope you enjoy it
