My wife and I are fortunate enough to be able to spend a few days in Paris in February, and I was wondering if any of the planet members from France could recommend a good shop in Paris where a man might satisfy his need for some hobby shopping ;) . Thanks in advance everyone.

She won't like this, but Le Cimier's shop is in a little side street called Rue Ginoux, off Avenue Emile Zola.

Also a place called Azimut Hobby Cafe, Rue de Turenne off Place de la Republique

She won't be able to drag you out ;)

Hallo,
Le Cimier yes, but remember that opens only thursday, friday and saturday (10AM to 19PM without stop as about all the shops and activities in Paris, included museums)
Besides:
EOL, Rue du Louvre 3
AUX DRAPEAUX DE FRANCE, 13-14 galerie Montpensier (front to the Louvre)
EUROMAQUETTE, 88 Rue de Charenton open tuesday-saturday
Then you can park your wife in the Museum of Louvre ;) while you visit these shops.
And if you want that she leaves definitively you, I suggest a visit to the bookshop Librairie A & C, Avenue de la Republique 19 and a day into the Musée de l'Armée, situated in the palace Hotel des Invalides (where is also the Napoleon's tomb) incredible place to see all possible about nap arms and uniforms, about french second Empire 1870, and medieval armours and arms

Glenn,

marcello give's you the best advise. I must recommend the Musee de l'armee. My wife was going without notified me, and i never know it. I was all in the vitrine's with my mouth wide open and not enough power for the digicam.. I spent four hours there. Then she came and ask off i had seen enough.
See wanted to go the Champ Elysee for some shopping.
Keep your creditcard far away when your's mention this. At the other hand you can spend more hours there.
Don't forget visit the Dome des Invalide's.

Marc

hello Glenn,
Another suggestion: take a new credit card of the rechargeable type (with a little amount of money, of course) and give it to your wife at the beginning of the Champs Elisées (that are rather near to the Museée de l'Armée), saying her to spend all she wants, while you go to the Museum. 6 hours later she will leave you  . but you had already seen the Museum
Best regards

Thanks Marcellin, Marc and Anthony!

Wow, I think you guys should all consider becoming travel agents, but would advise you to avoid marriage counselling  ! I definately plan to visit Les Invalides and the Musee de l'armee. Seeing as we will be there from Thursday to Sunday, I should be able to check out most of the shops you have all suggested. :) :) Thanks again!

Hi Glenn,
Nothing, it has been a pleasure for me. I suggest you a little trick, this time seriously. You can take a touristic bus, in Paris there are several that carry tourists on tour of the town, in the most important places. The bus set off from Rue de Rivoli (near the Louvre  ), some campanies come to get the tourists at the hotel, you can ask for them at the reception. The tour is of about three hours, you and your wife can choose the places you like and then come back using the metro subway, that is the most quick way to go in Paris. With only a ticket (I suggest to make the 3 or 4 four days card) you can travel from one part to another of the town, until you don't exit from the subway, in a few minutes.
However, you cannot loose Notre Dame, la Tour Eiffel and the Trocadero, Le Sacre Coeur and Montmartre, a tour on the boat along the Senna river, Le Louvre obviously, if you can spend half day the Versailles castle, using a RER train (only half hour from Paris), THE MUSEE DE L'ARMEE, and for your wife the Champs Elyses and the Lafayette stores, where to buy parfums, make up articles, fashion dress and bags. If you visit the RATP site on WEB, it's the public company of urban transports, you can take informations and an useful plan of the subway net in Adobe program. Have you understood that I went eight times in Paris and I am always in love with that town, even if my Rome is wonderful too? :)
Regards MDM

Dave, it is a great city, with alot to do. I've visit it now 6 time's and i didn't not see everything.
When you buyed to much figures in the opinion off your lady i can assure you that everything is real good when you are making a boottrip on the river Seine with a diner.
Believe me, it is awesome. Also when you do it at the evening. When you come back from your trip, the Eifel tower is in the light, the lady ask you that you gonna buy the next dat more figures then you ever gonna paint.
BTW: At sunday everything is closed.
Look here for the diner on board.

Hi Marc,
If you play guitar as you write in English, your neighbourhood calls the Police every minute  I thought I'm very poor, but you seem at my level. I played bass guitar some years ago, but I still have a Fender Jazz, a Yamaha fretless, an Ovation and a SWR amp, then if you come at Rome sometimes, instead to visit always Paris, we can play together...

You guys are both very kind. Marcellin, the whole point of my trip to Paris is to attend a tour convention for teachers, run by a company that does European tours for students from North America. So a large part of my trip will be to experience a guided tour of the city, but we still get alot of free time for shopping :) . This will be my third trip to Paris.

I wouldn't worry too much about either of your English. I can understand you both very well.

Marc, if you ever find it difficult to say what you want in English, go ahead and use Dutch. (Echte Nederlans!) My wife is Dutch (Canadian born) and between her and my mother in law, I will have no difficulty translating your posts. ;)

Oke Glenn,

Nu in echt nederlands.

Marc

Hello Glenn,
Now we know exactly what Marc wanted to mean
I see you are a veteran, I thought it was the first time in Paris. Then, you already know all the most importante monuments, and are obliged to visit the Musée de l'Armée. I would like to know your impression after the visit...
Me and Marc we are forming a virtual band, we need a drummer
Best regards

Hi Marc;

It's funny, but I could make out some of your message even without help from my Wife! Then she came to help, and I am happy to say I could understand. My In-laws came to Canada in 1954 and 1955. Mom came on the ship, "Groetebeer". Now I will have to have my Dutch English dictionary beside the computer!
My wife says she is not "echte Hollans" either. Her Father came from Overijssel,. and her Mom is (are you ready for this) Fries!

Marcellin, you may laugh, but the real joke is that I actually play the drums! I don't own a set, but often play on the school drum kit where I work.

Marc D. Thanks for the links. I will print off the addresses that I find through the searches. I appreciate your help.

Glenn

Hi Glenn,
Well, this is an excellent example of what WEB can do. Now, meeting (or rendez-vous to entry in Parish air) in Rome sometimes, or elsewhere, to play blues... ;)
Best wishes
