Hi guys, being new to figure painting I was wondering if there was any difference in painting a 54mm figure to say a 120mm figure.

Hi Paul

WELCOME to PF

I can't speak ref figures as I only paint busts but I find that detail will always benefit the larger scales , although the sculpting and casting is of such high quality painting is easier .

Another thing is it will generally take less time to paint a smaller scale in busts but the detail work is still needed

Not sure how old you are but some find the larger scales a lot easier as they progress in age

Just my thoughts

Hi Nap, thanks for the reply I am 62 lol. I have a good magnifier with a light. Is it o.k. to post photos of my work I have finished so I can improve. I have only done 3 figures so far.

Hi Paul

It would be great to see your figures (and welcome aboard if I've not said it before) I used to paint figures of all sizes, but these days tend to do only 54's. Nap is correct in that they take much less time although the detail is fabulous on the current and recent figures. Probably you need to emphasis the dark/lights a bit more on the smaller stuff, but you've got less area to do this on which makes them tricky and I'll often repaint area's which I'm not happy with. There's no hiding place with the bigger scales and although they are larger to look right you'll need to put lots of work in; you can't just 'fudge it'. Try both and see what appeals and how you get on. Personally I like to pick a figure I fancy and that enthusiasm helps keep you going when it gets tricky :)
Cheers
