When bidding on Ebay and you come across shipping charges that just do not seem right, it's probably because they are just that. To ship a 54mm by Priority mail within the states should not be more than $3.85, period. The only way these thiefs get away with it is by adding the word "handling" to shipping. This kind of shipping is no more than price gouging. Report it to Ebay as I've pesonally seen at least one auction pulled because of this practice.~Gary

I agree with Alan, and my price is/was based on a package being mailed from within the states. I have sold stuff on Ebay and some of the costs were not too bad and others were a little high. One kit I sold only cost around $4-5 (US) to send I think to the UK, while a book I sent to Portugal cost the bidder $19 (US). As Alan said it's important to see where the seller is located. I have seen some sellers list the starting bid on an item as 0.01 and have the postage cost $20, within the US at that. Sellers that engage in this tactic are doing nothing more than having trying to get away with paying Ebay next to no commission as it's based on the final price of the item.~Gary

Both Alan and Gary are correct, where a seller is shipping to is key. ALL of my international bidders are prompted to contact me for options to have the item shipped to their country BEFORE they bid on an item, I then use the USPS shipping calculator and offer the three lowest shipping rates available to their country this way THEY can choose their shipping costs. And as Gary states (que ominous spooky voice), "BEWARE AUCTIONS THAT START AT $.01!"

Just a side note, I have recently been doing business with ANT Miniatures out of Russia and have received my first 54mm figure from them the other day. Get this, it cost $27.40 WITH THE SHIPPING INCLUDED! On top of that, they are very friendly folks to deal with and the figure is great! It takes awhile to get the order, (Hey man, it's RUSSIA!) but worth the wait. I've got four others on order from them. WWW.ANT-MINIATURES.COM Check 'em out!

Best!

I am in total agreement with all the above. I buy a fair bit off ebay and now always ask for a postage quote to Australia via the various means. I don't mind paying a small (reasonable) packing charge but, as in one instance, a guy in california justified an extra $8 by saying " he had to wait in line at the Post office". When I get around to selling next year the buyer will pay only actual postage ie what I have to pay in stamps. I am recycling all my boxes (a novel idea) but seriously don't have the nerve to charge extra for some bubble wrap or tissue paper which common sense says should be in there. As the guys say first check retail prices or it will end up expensive!

Just thought I would drop in my "bit" here...I do a little on ebay from both sides (buying & selling) and have noticed that more and more people are adding a "handling" charge to their price (which ebay are allowing under "Labour costs) of the P&P (sorry, shipping in the US!) wheras I have even refunded small amounts if the postage was more than anticipated.

I tend to look at the postage as part of the whole package of what i'm buying as well because if you really want it...

To overcome most of your concerns...I tend to follow this simple rule on ANY ebay item I may wish to buy:

Whatever is the "Most you would pay?" if you saw the item in a market sale...whatever it is...DO NOT go above it, and enter this as your Maximum bid"...if you get it cheaper then 'it's a bargain' if it goes for more...'it wasn't worth it'...

I have uesd that for three years now and never been disappointed...but I did sell a book for £22.95 just recently that could have been bought on Amazon for £12.95 New!!!...he got in a bidding war...don't fall for it.

Hope that helps little!

Wado....
