I did this in January and following Jim Patrick I also share this with you.
I put the Backgrounds with Paint Shop Pro.

How old are you ? Do you have a time machine ?
It looks real to me.
Where where we without the digital resources off our problems.

I like it, but be carefull not to overdone this things.
This way is good enough, and it is functional in relation with the figure.

I have also been playing with digital imagery programs and have taken some of the photos that Brandy Small just took of my figures and downloaded them into Photoshop and got various results.

Jean-Philippe, OUTSTANDING! I really like these. I must admit, yours turned out far better than mine. The Pirate is my favorite. Perfect setting. Really adds to the figure. Did you take the picture and then cut it out with photoshop or take the photo of the figure with the picture as a backdrop? In either case, great work!

Jim Patrick

Thanks guys,

Anders : The alemany are not celtics tribes buts germanics ! ;)
(In france we call Germany "Allemagne")

Jim : I used Paint shop pro. I found the background on the internet, it's from Master and Commander ! I patiently made a selection of the pirate and glue it on the background picture. After that I make the contour (?) of the pirate not neat and sharp, it has to melt in the background. I'm sorry it's difficult for me to explain, I don't have the words... :(
Do you understand ?

Bye
Jean-Philippe

Jean-Philippe, don't under estimate yourself. I understood your words perfectly. I didn't think about a high resolution photo from the internet. I instead cut up my wifes new calender  ! Thanks for the idea. It would have saved me a lot of trouble.

Jim Patrick

JP looks great..the alemany warrior is the best one for sure !

For anyone that is wondering you can do the same thing in photoshop with the pen tool. Carefully outline the curves of your figure and how much of the ground work you want to use, using your anchor points and all that, and then turn it into a selection. If you go up to select on the top of your window, choose inverse, and you can just delete the original photo backround and replace it with yours.

The one thing to do is make sure that when you make the selection, you feather it slightly (it'll be an option on on of the tool bars) as that will help soften the edges of the cutout
