Hi,

One question to people that paint with oils.

How to paint the lines that separate the different pieces?

For example here line that separates the red shirt with white belt.

You use acrilic, or use a diluted oil? Do this before oils dry, or after?

Thanks.

I had to paint those fine lines recently on a 54mm figure, and they were a pain in the a***!

Use a high quality 000 brush (I use W&N Series 7) and try to carefully control the amount of paint on the bristles. I don't thin my paint (oils) at all. There is no "trick." It's all about having a steady hand, controlling the paint, and practice.

General recommendations for doing any sort of fine lines is a good brush, paint at the right consistency and a steady hand.

You could do this with acrylic/vinyl paints over oils if they've dried to a good matt finish, but there's no need to switch mediums if you would prefer not to - lots of oil painters use oil paint and nothing else.

I would offer this too, preparation goes along way in keeping those lines sharp, dust and other buildup will cause the laying of a line to go off track and make inconsistent thicknesses.

I paint fine lines in oils using my favourite W&N size 0 brush and have another brush slightly moist with thinners to correct any mistakes.Thats why i love oils,so forgiving.

Just like your women.

Brians way works really well but if you are like me you'll need 3 brushes with thinners.
Cheers
