Hi all,

I’m new here and not too sure if this thread is directed more toward painters or what, so if this does need to be moved to the sculpting thread I apologise.

I’ve been out of the hobby a while for one reason or another, and this is my first project on returning.
As the title suggests this is my first sculpt, and only my second figure all up. My first attempt at figure painting is here, and as you can see from the date, was before I had a break from the hobby:

The reason I’m posting this project in here is, as the forum suggests, I want proper critique on both my sculpting and painting so that I can keep progressing (I have skin like a Rhino so please don’t hold back).:sneaky:

I started with a basic Dragon head, cleaned it up, and sliced the ears of. I re-sculpted the ears, hair and stash from Green Stuff putty which I found not too bad to work with. I will add more pics as I go.(y)

Oh BTW, My name is Christen and I live on the Gold Coast, Australia.

I like your start on the modified head. The figure could use some more color to him to bring more life out. He looks a bit flat with the white highlites. Some warmer tones in the cheeks will help tons. Nice start sir.

Hey,
these are some huge pictures for a small head. I can't really tell if you plan to sculpt a whole figure or if you plan to use the modified head. On the second picture I get the impression that the brows are pretty bushy and thick. Without the rest of the head/ helmet it looks a bit weird.

Hi guys,
Thanks for all your honest input.

@Meehan: Thanks for the kind words. As for The US Marine figure, that’s very old and has long since been lost after a move of countries. However I have some new figures, and a couple of busts, hopefully arriving today so I will keep updated on the painting of these.

Pepperpot: I should have explained the project a little better sorry. I will be doing the whole figure, possibly a Connaught Ranger from the mid 1800’s. I have normally just suck with WWII armour in the past, so this will be a much needed change / challenge for me.

Tony: With the Mo, I was purposely going for a large impressive stash, but will trim the edges to give it a little more shape. As for the brows, he’s now booked in for a waxing session this evening to trim them down to scale a little.

Christen
