This thread is to detail the progress on a concept that I had a day dream about. This is a concept I've never seen yet that again will use my Immersive Style.

The items in this concept at a 1/35 scale figure and a 1/10 scale bust of Scale75's Uboat first watch officer.

I will also be concepting another sound tower along with a vignette base.

What's unique about this detail view concept is it uses the engineering theory of creating a detail view on a drawing but this will be with 3D in the form of a vignette.

First up was this beautiful bust I got from Scale75.

This is the 1/10 scale first watch officer bust that was derived from the Wofle conning tower diorama offered from Scale75.

This is the 1/35 scale first watch officer that was ordered as a replacement next to the one from the Wolfe diorama.

The lighter darker color one will be the figure that will be used for this build. It also has better detail since there is less material in this build to focus on, it needs to be better quality.

Great start, must admit that bust is a really great one, the sextant alone is a work of art. Looking forward to seeing this all come together.

Cheers Simon

There is going to be some serious detail painting on this piece. This is where the Wolfe book is going to come in handy as it has great detail. I'll post some photos of it when the painting time comes.

I'm not sure I understand the concept at all, but it sounds very intriguing!

This is why no one has done this yet as it's something that is detail on detail but in 3D. The easiest why I could explain it is look up engineering detail view on engineering drawing.

The attached photo shows the view and the detail view beside it.

This concept layout represents the figure and the bust next to it would be the detail view.

Got it. I will be intrigued to see how you pull this off.....

Yeah, I'll never forget I have a day dream about this. Because the Sexton is such a cool instrument, it made a great concept for my pipe dream per say. Ever since I had seen this bust, I just really liked it and since its a basic grey style clothing, its nice & simple.

Excellent, and the bust sculpt looks great. Awesome concept, standing by for more.

Thanks! One of the next things I need to do is figure out the base concept & composition. I like to switch between building and painting. Composition though in designing a diorama is one of my favorite items.

In this base concept for how I'm going to do the composition, I need to design & print a base that is similar scale to the ship but this have a circle around the figure bust showing a photo of the sea. I'm going to have sound also in this build as it adds the Immersive style element that really surrounds the viewer when looking at the model.

One of the key elements to my style of modeling is to keep things simple but dynamic. This school of thought also comes from my experience doing mechanical engineering because from what I've seen, it seems when something is perfect, it will always change and a new version of it will born. Change though is a law of nature it seems.

Hi Ross

This is intriguing to see , following with interest

Look forward to seeing more

Happy benchtime

Thanks Nap

One of the most influential diorama's I've ever seen was Roger Hurkmans "Purgatory" diorama with the Flak 88 and some of my style was defined by his modeling concepts.
*I almost bought this diorama from him but figured one day I would create my own style that would basically be something I would not need to buy.

I figured in one of these posts I would mention just how some of my style was developed.

Hi Ross

It’s interesting to read how the style was developed

Thanks for taking the time

Looking forward to seeing more updates

Happy benchtime

Exactly, spot on.;) There's so many great examples to see and take inspiration from. Thinking outside the box means to me; never having been in a box, thereby making the skys the limit.

Standing by to stand by.

This is very intriguing! Looking forward to seeing this unfold. Hopefully take some inspiration from the concept myself one day perhaps.

If I have it right. I'm kinda trying to fully understand it too. Would it be something along the lines of a schematic /exploded view using the two different scales?

Very cool sounding any road!
