Can anyone tell me if with minor modifications this figure could be painted up as the 3rd Hussars or did they not wear the cylindrical shako and plain shabraque/horse cloth in 1814

Cheers David

Yes, David, you can go ahead with the 3rd regiment. The cylindrical shako, called shako rouleau, was the fashionable headwear to be worn by light cavalry officers by the end of the empire, many of the young officers wearing it long before it was standard issue for the troopers.

David,
As you know the argentine grey is very much controversial and the red is rather crimson.
I can look into Rousselot plates tonight if you don't have them, for the details of the uniform.
This said in 1814 due to shortage of supplies liberties were taken with uniform rules.

I would go for this book, its a great book to search and find lots of info on french hussars. The whole serie is just great and worth every worth every euro. H&C has great service and at 20,00 euro free shipping in Euro.

I've got the book of plates. Can't find anything definitive one way or the other.

It was seeing your sculpted Hussar that gave me the drive to do a mounted figure again!

Cheers

David

I think many here would love seeing you do mounted figures again!
Have you looked into H&C small books of plates as mentioned by Jan Willem? They are not perfect but a good summary of all serious representations of those regiments.

Aahh,
I've some of these at home................I hope i've the right one. Check later!!:sneaky:

Another option is to switch out the head for one with an older style shako or an elite company fur colpack(sp?) if that makes you more comfortable.
Looking forward to seeing progress on this (I have the same figure on my bench as 2nd Regt.)

You get the answer... You inky have to start painting...

The most interesting is the drawing that shows colonel Moncey resting

Yes you can do the 3rd with the cylindrical shako. Check the H&C series on the hussars. Volume 2 I think.

Thanks folks,
I found the colour plates and the ink print is excellent. I think I found a good picture in the H&C battle of Nations 1814.

Just finishing up the RMLI figure and then I'll begin prep on the Hussar.:sneaky:
