Hi, all.

What color there were epaulettes at sappers of Napoleon Imperial Guard before 1810 year?

After 1810 - i know - gold-red and gold-green.

Thanks.

Hello,

I have taken a look at Histoire et Collections book Officers et soldats de la Garde Impériale - troupes à pied, which is a good compilation of sources, a handbook-like volume. I supose you are referring to Old Guard Grenadiers and Chasseurs. I have not touched upon the Dutch regiment.

There is a Grenadier sapper private, based on the Otto manuscript and dated c. 1807, with all-red épaulettes; and another, after Martinet and dated c. 1810, with the same BUT gold trim to the épaulette strap. Brides red for all. After 1810, épaulettes were red, with gold trimming and red/gold mixed fringes. NCOs used these too. Brides gold trimmed red for all.

Now to Chasseurs; they show one private based on the Otto manuscript and another on Martinet, both of them wear épaulettes with green strap and red fringes. There is also a NCO with green strap trimmed gold, and gold-red mixed fringes, and another with the green and red version already described, the first one attired in full dress. To cap it all, they show a sapper private during the 1815 campaign, with the same green strap trimmed gold, and gold-red mixed fringes, as attributed to the NCO. Brides red for all except for the 1815 type, apparently gold trimmed green (?).

It is probable other members can offer still more examples.

HTH,
Dani
