hello
i think this would be the ideal thing for an boxed diorama with one in which the wall he is painting forms the background and figure an items are placed in front..so it looks simply without focus one is refering to.all items tell an story but the thing he is workin on is missing.
only an thought
cheers

my fav is the paint going of the edge and being on the lower level of the base and the colour of the stool and all the differing shape and size of containers

Afternoon folks...firstly cheers lan for the pics..
This is a happy sculpt and paint, perhaps a wee bit of ego as pictorial artist has been my back ground, near all my life...but sadly he's a one of...All what you see is what l used in my work day..old stall and all he!he!..painted green, by each new apprentice on his first day
Markus, l see your point and agree, but in this case the viewer is the wall or canvas, its the artist looking at you..while he is trying to match colour on the back of his hand..
lm truly happy folks enjoy him and l appreciate all your opinions....
Phil...

Awesome !!!!!! Gentlemen I've seen this scene 1000's of times in the old Signshop and it's all there pounce papers everything my hats off to you Bro, as i've had to paint that stall myself long ago. A old pictorial artist/signwriter told me once you can tell a tradesmen's quality by the thickness of the mall stick (Armlength piece of dowl with a cloth end to rest and guide you while you paint ) the thinner it is the more control he has .This old tradie had a 6 mm diameter mall stick .Every time I meet another signwriter I look and laugh as I've not seen a 6mm mall stick again .My hats off to you Bro, Old pictorial artists never die they just become immortalized in sculpt.

Cheers,
Chris

hello phil
in any case the idea and the sculpting is first rate.i mentioned it only because its very hard to find an idea for an working boxed diorama
this would be ideal- but of course your argumnets are valid too if you see yourself as the canvas its working to-in this case in an interaction without all fixed in an boxed setting.but with some LED lighting creating this gloomy Michelangelo theme in mind doing his ceilingfrescos this could be looking good to

cheers

Markus, cobber l like your talk, you've got the old brain doing a wee over time, designed in such a way that one would be looking up towards the ceiling but with Michelangelo as the centre of the subject..Your idea cob is a must look at....
cheers Phil...

Hello Phil, this wee guy is a fantastic piece of work brother.Lots of things in this piece that are familiar to me too being a Signwriter/Pictorial Artist by trade. You have captured that intense look in his face as he is picturing his subject on canvas,I can just imagine how the artist is looking at light, shadow, colour and composition .I can see how you have enjoyed working on this sculpt Phil.Top rate brother.

Regards,John:)
