This is of course JMD's excellent release of a soldier in France's Garde Mobile, or militia which fought in the later stages of the Franco-Prussian war of 1870. I was inspired to paint this after a recent trip to Paris, where I was able to see a selection of paintings by Earnest Meissonier which were on exhibit at the French Army Museum. I actually bought the figure in Girona, but the exhibit was very interesting, and I made sure this was the first one I did when I got back.
I've noticed JMD has put out some excellent fantasy figures lately, but I hope they won't abandon the historical side of things, because I would love to see how their talented sculptors would handle a Prussian Cuirassier or member of Napoleon III's Imperial Guard (hint...I have set aside the required money for just such an occassion and I would hope I'm not alone on that point.) Comments always welcome and I look forward to exchanging ideas with you all. Cheers;
