General Lee's Traveller

Question for anyone but hoping maybe one of the American folks especially might clear up...

I've got a number of pictures of said horse but some show him as a dapple others as a more plain "white" The photos look more like the latter but not sure how well the photos of the day showed that kind of detail. Any help much appreciated
