After recently watching that excellent TV series, The Musketeers, on BBC I wanted to make my own version of one of these characters. I settled on the final episode which showed Porthos promoted to General and wearing a rather resplendent armoured uniform. I had a look to see what I could improvise and found a Youngs bust that I had made of Le Hire and a spare Mitches Models head that I bought among others at a show a couple of years back.

The head was from a ACW bust which had a very nice Hardie hat that I carefully cut off to use again another day. I wanted Le Hire's armour to be leather instead of metal and I painted this in my usual oils. After joining the head to the body and sculpting a frilly lace type shirt I also sculpted a Fluer De Lys emblem from milliput onto his right arm to signify his role as Musketeer to the King.

I had a lot of fun altering this bust and hope that you like it.

Now that's exactly as I would expect General Porthos to appear.
Just the right level of 'over the top'.

Cheers,
Andrew
