I have this set of figures working their way to the top of the pile.

They are titled "Der Abscheid" not a literal translation but "The Farewell" would be the English equivelent and are based on the Franco-Prussian War Niederwalddenkmal memorial near Rudesheim

The problem I have is identifying the uniform of this figure;

I assume he is a cavalryman but if anyone has any ideas, or better still uniform photo's or illustrations could you please help.

Hi Roger!

Look at his helmet:

Its a bavarian chevaux-leger (light cavalry) of the 1., 5. or 6. Regiment of Chevaulegers of the Kingdom of Bavaria. A simple horseman, not an officer or NCO

On the picture below you can see the green uniform with leather-brown boots in the first row, second from right.

I give you also this link, that shows you the special different colours of thoe collars of those regiments. (1. Yellow, 5. Red, 6. Rose)

Thank you Martin. I have been doing some searching myself and had reached the same conclusion that the figure is a Bavarian Chevauleger.

It's nice to have someone reach the same conclusion to confirm it though, so thanks and thanks for the illustration and the link they will come in very useful.

Roger
