I saw this book advertised on the back of a Military Book Club membership envelope and thought I'd try to find out more about it. Follow the link to Amazon. I would suggest those that may be interested in this to first read the reviews. I have to say That I'm all for those that are critical of this book. There was another Gettysburg book that is mentioned in the reviews/comments that took liberty with the work of others as well. For those that are "nit picky", like me BUYER BEWARE.~Gary

From what I have seen of Adkin's books they are superb. Yes there are the odd mistakes but they do not detract from the overall value of the book. I note it receives more positive reviews (5) than not so favourable (3) and one in the middle that says it is a gem with flaws. Of those that are not favourable one has not finished reading the book and simply complains about the lack of attribution to the reviewer, one nit picks a few mistakes and the the third had not even read the book but bases his review on the other unfavourable ones!! What value is that one? They all have the taste of sour grapes and I suggest this thread simply damns the book without having read it also.

Cheers
Chris

Chris, Knowing the reputation of one of the reviewers was enough to tell ME that this was something I did not want to buy. Besides I'm not into buying books where an author has lifted maps and or accounts from another author without permission or credit, essentially publishing something as your own. In follow on postings Mr. Adkins and the Editor at Aurum Press deny using Mr. Petruzzi's map, but you'll find that at no time (that I could find) did either one deny using first hand accounts from letters in a private collection that only Mr. Petruzzi had access. You may feel it somewhat unfair to judge this book just by the reviews and not by reading it myself. Reviews are a valuable tool and I see no problem in using them to determine the books I'd like to buy. To each his own, if you buy it I hope it meets your expectations. ~Gary
