Good reference book on Crusade Knights

Looking for a good reference book for knights of the Crusades (Templar, Teutonic, Hospitaller etc.).

Would prefer some history in addition to good colour plates, but mainly for the illustrations. Historical references could be other books that I may add.

I'd suggest you contact David Powell directly. He's 'Bailey' on PF.

While it may not be what you are specifically looking for (there are no colour prints), this book by David Nicolle is a complilation of a vast array of contemporary images from the period, together with detailed descriptions:-
Arms & Armour of the Crusading Era, 1050-1350: Western Europe and the Crusader States
You'll probably get lots of other books by David Nicolle (generally for Osprey pub.) in the 'Popular titles by this author' on that page, which you might find useful.

Thanks Andrew, I have contacted Bailey and the book looks very interesting. Pity the Pegaso 90mm Knight Hospitaller is OOP, can't seem to find an original anywhere...

Thanks Bill, brilliant. Though far more expensive (78 pounds or AU$135) than what Pegaso were selling it (62Euro or AU$96). I assume because it's OOP. But I have to buy it...

Historex are always expensive which is why they often have stock when not available elsewhere. However, if you really want it then it becomes an option. If you buy it do show the finished article on here.

Try searching something like “crusader Knight models” etc.
Worth a look.

If you are still interested, I got a book some years ago called "The Crusades" by Yli Vallejo. It has multiple color plates (with explanations of the Arms and Armour used by most combatants) and illustrations. It also has a brief history of all the Crusades. It is a large glossy paperback format. Listed for sale on multiple web sites. Used can be fairly cheap but new can be quite expensive. Hope this helps.

Don't forget that historex will have paid import duty to bring the kit in from Italy. Another one of Boris,s Brexit bonuses.
