Good evening, my name is David and at the moment I'm working in Eastern Ukraine. I'm here for while so I thought I'd rekindle a hobby from the past and paint a soldier or two, it will give me something to do. The problem I have is that the postal or banking system doesn't work here so I've got to wait until I visit home to buy something, I've got to make sure I bring everything I need back with me because there's not a lot to buy out here!
So, I've had a resin figure ordered for me and I'll be back to the UK in October and will go shopping for paints and brushes, everything I think I need. I'll then start painting and post the results on here. So until then, I'll just be watching the rest of you.

Thank you gents, don't expect too much, I've got the time out here but we'll have to see about my ability. I'll buy Acrylics as I live in a hotel so I have to try and keep the smell down, I'll use spray primer but thats only one night, I'll get away with making a smell for one night. The hot summer is ending and a very cold winter awaits so I need something to do during the dark evenings.

This one from Bonapartes, the 7th Regiment of Foot character. Loved the worn expression on his face. Will it come with a painting/ colour guide? Plus its a bigger figure, swings and roundabouts about whether it's easier or harder but we'll find out. I've got a whole Winter to get through!

It looks good, doesn't it? I've found that it was first marketed as a bust but then converted to a full figure. I've been writing a list of bits I think I need, the normal food (and especially the booze) shops are full of stock but the moment that you need anything special you run run into a wall. I'd assumed that the postal system would still work, slowly but still function but no. Very little can cross between the two sides over here, I can bring whatever I like, hence the list.

Hi David, welcome to PF. Enjoy the stuff, enjoy the company.. If you look back through the threads I'm fairly sure you'll find someone has done the figure you've ordered and put up all the useful stuff with photos. Personally, I think you should get in touch with Ukrainian modellers to help you with supplies, particularly Planet member Anastasiya of Red Fox Miniatures.
Best wishes, Gary

Welcome to Planet Figure David and good luck with your figure. No doubt those long cold nights ahead will pass a little quicker once you get your paint brushes wet. Looking forward to seeing your progress pics on that figure.
