New to this site. I'm very passionate about this hobby and I'm very excited how much it has grown. I started building models when I was 9 years old (I'm 40 years old) then I came across a verlinden book which changed my world. After that books by Shep Paine and Bill Horan really took hold. My techniques vary as does my interest in subjects. I come from a family who encouraged my painting and I feel very lucky for there backing. My father owned a ceramics shop from 1967 to 1994. I'm very critical of my own work which is a curse.

I like the support and advice this site gives.

Thanks

Thanks Gordy. I lived in O'Fallon when I was 11 years old. My dad moved his ceramic shop there for a while. What a small world, I recall building my first jets during that time. Presently I'm in between trying to change my painting technique. I trying to paint pure acrylic. I read a article on "Wet on wet" this is some new craze that I have been doing for years. Any how, these community's have been a blessing. I live in a area that has very few figure painters and with money being tight I can not travel to show's so these on line sites and painters blogs have been a gold mine for idea's and communicating to others. One day I would love to find a living promoting this hobby (I know I will not be rich)after years of working I would like to follow on something I enjoy.

Hope to hear from you again and thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Welcome aboard Aaron! I don't know how close you live to Royal Oak Michigan but there is a store, as well as a club there at http://www.michtoy.com/. They have some really nice videos as well on youtube. All are linked on their homepage. Not sure if you knew anything about them or not so hopefully this helps. I'm sure we can all relate to finances being tight these days and not being able to travel. Geeez, the cost of going to a show has skyrocketed now (gas, hotel, entering, eating, spending....).

Anyway, hope you enjoy your time here and pF can motivate you in some way (y)

Small world indeed!

O'Fallon has quadrupled in size in the past 15 years and now is quite a little metropolis!

I'm pleased to see that planetFigure can be a virtual watering hole for figurists !

Acrylics, stay tuned for a special announcement with regards to painting in acrylics ;)
