I was at the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff this week and this sculpture in the entrance hall caught my eye - I was sure I had seen a figure sculpt based on it. Any ideas?

Apologies for the poor photo. There was a rather fine Celtic figure behind it too but didn't get a photo of that one.
Cheers Mat

?
There may have been a Stadden or Barton 90mm drummer years ago.
There's something hazy in My mind too, but I can't see it on their lists

The only sculpt I have seen is an Identical one as part of the King's regimant Memorial in Liverpool
In St. John's gardens behind St. George's hall.

I do wonder iif it is 'The memorial to all Minden regimants' and YOU
may have seen it elsewhere as a monument too

Thanks Paul, that all makes sense - I did some work a few years back on the Kings Regiment displays at the Museum of Liverpool and I remember now seeing this bronze statue then (think they may have had a tabletop centrepiece version too in the display case). I probably have a good picture of it that I could post later.
So maybe I just saw the one in Cardiff and made a misconnection with the Liverpool one I had seen earlier - but still thinking I've seen something very similar in miniature!
Cheers

This statue is in the gardens opposite that museum.
It's been moved now to the waterfront museum.
I'm sure that by now there must have been a model of it, even if it was a one off.
I'd do myself if I had the time, it's a cracker.
Not convinced by the plume though !
I wonder if any others are out there and if the 'minden'' regiments are the connection?
It would make a great conversion piece from historx spares an a bit 'o putty.
I do believe I've convinced myself. !
Maybe after xmas, too much on now though.
Paul.

Hi Paul, the new waterfront museum was the one I worked on - quite a good display of kings regiment artefacts inside.
Just noticed the plume - a bit suspect as far as I know on this subject.
Be interested to see how you do on a sculpt/conversion of this if you start one.
Cheers

Yes I was down there with Housecarl a few weeks ago.
The display itself is great, but sadly they have the room far too
dark to see it all properly when it's bright outside.
Crackers it is mate, crackers.
Do you make this marlburian period?

I've always used the damw phrase without thinking about it.

I'm also thinking , just thinking of going to see Kulmbach next august.

Almost certain to collect more from the editors, not engravers !

He he he he
Have a good day mate,
Paul

I didn't know you were home,
You must love the peace n quiet when you're back.
Right I'm starting now, catch ya later.

Hi Paul
I think you're right about the displays at MOL - they are very dimly lit.
I found the image on my work computer of the maquette for the memorial found in the collection - thought you may be interested.

The description says its of a young drummer at the battle of Dettingen 1743.
Thanks for recognising this from my Cardiff photo as I would have forgotten I think! It's the the type of subject Maurice Corry may have done in a larger scale I thought?

I don't have any figures of this period although I do love the look of it so have a few books etc. and hope to do some in the future. Do you?

Cheers
Mat

Pictures came through fine it is lovely isn't it ?
It just shows you don't have to go far for inspirationm
Yeah moz would've done that justice, as would Carl Reid, (from the waist up), ha ha.
Yeah I've got a few small 54's and 80mms, nice period,
Loadsa colour on the drummers with their mitrecaps and the prussians are lovely uniforms too.
The flat figure world is full of those.

So .... Yeah defo have a go at this in the new year, fancy a group buid "against each other" ? Could be fun.
I would build it from bits in my spares box with a sculpted mitre
