Greetings ALL.

I am looking for braiding details for a Guardsman's Coatee on the Cuff and on the Coatee tails.
If anyone has any pics they could post it would be appreciated .
Thanks
Mick

You need someone to dig out their copy of Crimean Uniforms - British Infantry. Sadly mine is packed for an upcoming move. Which regiment are you asking about?

Perhaps these may be useful.

Hi crf , Pete. Thanks
Im looking for a Guardsman Coldstream Gds, What I am trying to find out is . I know the cuffs are blue, buttons in pairs, pewter on a white lace with white pipping around the the edge. What Im not sure off if there is a thin piece of blue between the white pipping and white lace bed for the buttons. So looking at it square on it would be White pipping, thin blue cloth line, white lace for buttons.
Hope this makes seance
Mick

Hi Mick,

According to the directions with David Grieve's Crimea Coldstream figures from the late 80s, the cuff itself is dark blue (as you know), the buttons are mounted on a piece of white lace which is attached to a cuff decoration the same red colour as the tunic. I've drawn a very rough (!) diagram which is attached. I hope this helps.

Thanks Pete.
I had it in my head it was blue where you have indicated red, but I wasn't 100% sure. I have plenty of ref for officers but non for Guardsmen. So I think we will go with the red.
Thanks Mick

Yes I will go with David, I should have taken more notice in the Guards Museum, Dad was the Custodian when it first opened in the old Guard room at Wellington Bks prior to his retirement in 78.
Thanks again mick

I had a couple of friends who worked in the museum in the late 80s, early 90s (before I moved to the USA). I used to go and help on Black Sunday and other busy times.

Hi Pete,
If you knew my dad you would have known him as Wink, He retired from 2CG in 1978 stayed on at the museum for a while ( Not as an exhibit ) Then went to the Royal Hospital Chelsea as a Constable. Not a Pensioner. He used to do a lot of research for an american Military Artist Donna Neary. I still have some original Prints she did for him of Coldstreamers.
Mick

Hi Mick,

He was not one of the guys I knew. I knew Captain David Horn who was the curator at the time, Malcolm Found who was a Grenadier and Arthur Dyke who was a Jock.

Pete

Hi Pete ME again.

Proof positive you and David Grieve are correct. If you enlarge this you can see the red. Although this is a Grenadier Coatee the style would be the same .
Thanks for all your help Mick

Your Dad probably new mine then. Mine was 2CG from 58 til 84.

Martin

Martin. That would be a yes, with those dates, Did he go to kenya in the late 50s early 60s. When did you become a barrack rat Im sorry but the name doesn't ring a bell with me .
Mick

I was never in barracks. I met him for the first time at the depot when I joined up. I had no idea he was still in! It's a funny old world :)

Martin

That probably explains why the name dosen't ring a bell. The only Donkey walloper I knew was a Life Guard who looked after the Guards Chapel when the old man was in the museum. But I can't remember his name Im must be getting old.
Mick.
