Hi Jason:
Oh my yes, I really like your work. Yes, the photos do kind of
"wash out" the colours in the figure. But anyone can see that
you're really moving in the right direction. I've done a couple
of these kind of figures.. . . aw dude, they are so much fun.
There are no rules, regarding the colour choices. So you can
just let it all hang out, as "WE" used to say in the 20th Century.
Hopefully, you're having a great time doing these. Re the images?
You'll get there. No hurry. Don't be too hard on yourself. Just
keep shooting and you'll figure out a way to get the kind of quality
that you want. . . that will show off the fine work you pur into each
of these figures.

Looking good. You've got some nice attention to detail and the shading on the blue looks nice and smooth. I also like what you've done with the base. I was recently inspired to paint up a few marines so I just picked up a tactical and an assault squad. I'm looking forward to starting them.
As for the photography, the lighting on the first one looks okay (though perhaps a little bright) but the second one is pretty washed out. Seems to me you could probably benefit from something to help diffuse the light. I redid my photo setup last weekend and I think it helped. I just followed this tutorial from MassiveVoodoo (including the shopping trip to Ikea) and printed out a few of their photo backgrounds (total cost including printing the backgrounds ~$3). For lighting I've got two lamps coming in from either side at about 45 degrees and I'm using daylight bulbs which I think helps give a truer color.
