Well done Steven!... as a first attempt!..you have done far better than my first effort! or 2nd or 3rd...:D If I could, what I would suggest is look to the left eye-brow, and match it with the right! as is seems overly thick. but a damn good effort. (y)

Regards,

Mark

In comparison with the real masters I'm a beginner. You can call me starting advanced.
What do you wanna know about oilpainting. There are so much techniques, I can only tell you mine. What figures do you paint, are they 28 mm, 54, 75 or larger. That make's alot of difference about the shading and highlighting.

Hi Marc,

sorry for delay reply.now i work on the 1/35 and 1/16 scale figures. i have tried to painting through oilpainting, but all failed. because i found it's very difficult to control the thickness. meanwhile, i don't have any oilpainting basic knowledge. but i think you can teach me as your techniques. :) what i need to know and what's the first thing i need to learn?

regards
Steven

A very small lesson.
First: take a small amount of paint out of the tube on a index card. Let it sit there for a 15 minutes. The oil is then out of the paint and transfer it to your palete. I use a white till.
Second: I use Liquid and White Spirit for diluting the paint if needed. Most at the time I paint with the pure stuff that I got from step 1. Mix the colors untill you think you get what you want.
Then I paint undiluted the whole area. Let it dry for 15 minutes and then I go with a flat brush removing the paint untill I got a equaal amount of paint on the figure with no brushstrokes. You get more off then you think.
After that I go painting on the high and shades. I pick up a small brush W&N 7 number 1 and for example with white I put some small dots on the highest point that should be highlighted. With a small flat brush I feather the white into the basecolor.
For shading I do the same.
I never dilute my paints in this step.
Then in a drybox (60 W bulb in a wooden box) I let dry the paint overnight.
The next day I paint the high and shades more vissible and then I dilute the paint till it is workable. Let's say" Milky "
Feel free to ask. Remember that Rome isn't build on one day. You have to practice alot, as you have to do with acrylic.

Hi Marc,

first of all, thank you for your patience explain. in your this lesson. i have 2 questions.
1. in the first step, what color that you using for the base color.
2. in the last step, why you paint the high and shades again after dry the paint overnight. is it for more highlights and shadows?
