Hello all, I'm Chris from the Tulsa area. I'm generally an avid aircraft modeler (1/32, 1/48) the size of my armor collection is growing immense within my stash and I've always wanted to enter the would of dioramas and vignettes (having grown up in the Sheperd Paine/Monogram period). I've always been amazed by figure painting on the level you guys display and that I see at model shows and local stores (*ahem*,The Hussar over there on 61st and Sheridan... I know, a shameless plug for a great store and its owner, if you're ever in town), and when I was much younger tried my hand at role play miniatures (Ral Partha, Citadel, etc...)for a few years (garbage when looking back at them, now , lol).
Over the years my collection of figures have grown, too, with the occasional "Oh, if I ever get into figure painting this will be cool to have" purchase. I'm an avid lurker over at ARC and their site has been an invaluable tool in my a/c modelling so I figured I'd shop around for a figure based forum to see what's what in the miniature world now a days.
So, that's how I ended up here. All I can say is, "Wow!" I've been lurking for a couple of weeks and I haven't seen a single piece that hasn't been outstanding as well as some of the in progress and more tutorial type threads I've seen have been been plenty informative.
I've been reading up on the subject and obviously browsing the forums/galleries and have recently started a few projects, more for the sake of practice and testing which mediums I want to work with. I'm working with some oils at the moment and am finding them to be where I feel comfortable progressing, although I'm running into challenges. Primarily, I'm having a difficult time eliminating brush strokes in my blending and I haven't quite nailed what consistency oils should be worked with in. Also, ultimately, I'm hoping to develop smaller scale figure skills to complement my a/c and armor models and I'm not sure oils is the way to go with those?
Anyway, that's my prerequisite new guy speech . I'm not the most active of posters, but I know I'll have questions soon so you'll be hearing from me. Plus, I'm always lurking and so let this serve as enormous collective compliment and thank you to all you guys and your work, both past and future, cause I'll be out there admiring it and learning so much from it.
Not sure if I can do this as a noob, but here's a few shots of my a/c work. Sorry, no figures yet, but I will certainly post a few when I get the hang of it.
