Hello from MN

I've always looked on this forum on & off and figured it was time to register.

I wasn't originally a figure painter or painted figures but as the years have gone on, started to do more and more.

The attached photo is the last bust I painted which is the MJ Miniatures 1/9 scale bust of the RFC pilot.

I reside in the same club as Scott Primeau in MN, the MMFS.

Yeah some history about my time doing scale modeling, I've always done it since I was a kid but one day when I was I think 25 wanted to get better and joined MMFS then meeting Scott and the crew. When going to my local hobby shop, I had seen a flyer and went to my first club meeting. I have yet to go to the Chicago show but our club makes a yearly trip. Maybe next year because I would like to meet more people in the hobby. I'll be 42 this year and over the past 12 years I've move more towards figures & dioramas for the element of increased difficultly. The difficultly of painting figures was a great fit plus with our guys in the MMFS, it was a great resource especially with feedback. I will usually paint a figure then ask Scott his opinion. Yes the state for MN in Minnesota.

Also with sculpting, I've only modified figures to change positions of arms, hands, and legs but one of the guys who I was asking a lot of questions to is Luc Klinkers. Cool dude with amazing talent. Felt lucky I got to pick his brain on questions about dioramas. With my current project for this winter (winter just started here) I'm working on the Scale75 Uboat Wolfe diorama. I will be sculpting the waves and all. This will be a great challenge plus I'm going to put my own spin on the figures as I feel like you only need 3-4 for the story of the diorama. One cool element I will be adding is sound on the diorama. When I look at this diorama, the base model has a great gift of telling a good story but its needs more that just figures. I needs water, it needs drama like waves but you need sound to get the full effect danger element I would say told in the story of the sea especially with a Uboat. When I started learning how to make a diorama, I was really drawn to the story element. My personal point of view on this is it needs to be simple to the point where less is more because it means more and tells more and one of the big effects is it leaves the viewer connecting with the story in there own view point.

Yeah one interesting fact about my career in modeling was the first one I built was with my grandfather at the age of 8 and it was a helicopter and it went from their. For some reason the tank model I build three times was the Jagdpather because I thought the hull looked cool. One thing I didn't know at that time was I was meant to be a mechanical engineer and now have been doing that for over 20 years. Doing concept design has always been my favorite and with dioramas and figures, its a great fit. Uboat diorama came in yesterday from Scale75 and the Wolfe book. Both are amazing and will post a review.

Thank you! This was a fun bust because I hadn't painted a full leather jacket like that before.
