Hello Folks
I have been contacted by a chap who is trying to identify the individual who features in this now iconic image of an SAS soldier during Operation Jaguar Dhofar in the 1970's. The gent concerned believes that the soldier in the photo may be his late father.
If anyone can throw any light on this it will be much appreciated.
Cheers
Gordon

Mitches Military Models used this picture, I think, to make a 200mm Operation Jaguar ( you could ask there )

Do SAS have regimental museum or association? If so, perhaps they could assist.

Colin

Thanks Colin
The guy has tried this route without success. I've pointed him towards forces re-united and another forum.
Cheers

Do you have the name of the photographer? He/she might recall the name of the subject and the circumstances surrounding the photo.

Hi Gordon,
On a quick search one possible name that cropped up was Bruce Niven!
cheers

Resurrecting an old thread I stumbled across by chance doing another search. I am a friend of the old and bold 22 SAS B squadron veterans who were on this op and I know the fellow in question - he's very much alive but unfortunately due to a military road accident he is now wheelchair-bound. He doesn't have the beard any more and his knuckles are somewhat seized from arthritis but his face is recognisably lean and distinctive as in the pics. I am going to call him J, his first initial. I have chatted with him (this year in February) a couple of times because the old fellas have a private weekly meet-up in Hereford (they call it 'going to Jurassic Park' among themselves). I mentioned the photo's iconic status to him and he was quite suprised and, I think, pleased (secretly). Bruce Niven was the officer who compiled a photo book of some photos from Op Jaguar and is not the person in question. I realise a lot of people in this world claim to know ex-SAS but I used to work in the UK defence industry and had an introduction to some of these blokes a few years ago when they were still working in that sector. Now of course, they have mostly all passed retirement age.
