Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction with regard to info/good quality colour plates regarding the sabretache and trumpet banner for a trumpeter in parade uniform (white colpack, blue dolman, doeskin breeches etc). Just in the middle of one at the moment but I’m struggling as to colours and certain other specifics. I’ve got Rousselot’s Napoleons Elite Cavalry, Bukhari/ McBride Napoleons Cavalry and the Men at Arms book on the Imperial Chasseurs as reference but the plates aren’t quite detailed enough.

I know the sabretache was pale blue with gold eagle, gold/red imperial crown and flags in green/red/blue. What colour were the flag poles? Did they follow the flag colour, were they natural or some other colour?

As for the trumpet banner I have got a crimson field with white centre bearing a gold eagle. There appear to be flags again- do these follow the same colour code as the sabretache and are the flag poles coloured the same? The folds/curtains around the centre field appear to be red or crimson edged gold-is it red or crimson?
Finally, bothe Rousselot and the Men at Arms book show the centre eagle on a blue shield with gold edging /decoration. Is this the only version or was there one with a plain white background and would this have had Imperial bees on like the sabretache.

Apologies for so many questions but any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Neal.

many question. the first important things is to define the date. Uniform change along the years

Hi Ivo, many thanks for replying and love the figure of Elie Krettly. The kit I am doing unfortunately does not give a date re the portrayal they have done. I am working off a plate from a Rousselot book I have which dates the uniform between 1804-1815. I’ve attached a copy of that plate and it is this trumpet banner I’m referring too in my question. I think I’m happy with the sabretache other than just confirming the colour for the flag poles.B9C1F123-ECD1-4871-AAC6-CB99DB6ACE93.jpeg

which kit is it?

the Rousselot plate shows late Empire uniforms, you can follow the planche as good document.

There are very few documents around and Rousselot is one of the best
