Magicsculpt

Marc,
I,ve been using Magicsculpt just recently and have had good results from it.I havent mixed it with any other medium and I dont know if that is ment to be ,but with 2 equal halves of magicsculpt kneaded slightly before mixing should get you some kind of result.Either work it while it is soft or once it has set ,its up to you.hth

MagicSculp is naturally a little soft when freshly mixed; Kneadatite/GS is a lot stiffer so if that's what you are more used to using it may just take some practice to get a feel for something else.

It can be the same for people used to MS who then try green stuff for the first time :)

There's nothing wrong with using it blended with GS so if that works okay for you you don't have to change, but if you want to try to get used to it pure you could start by really thoroughly mixing it (long after it has become a single colour) and then putting it aside for about 15-30 minutes, it will be a lot stiffer then. Unfortunately it will have become much less adhesive too and you will have lost a good portion of the working period - probably only about an hour remaining, versus 2-2+ hours.

Personally though I would suggest you mix it, put it aside for just a minute or so while you get your tools and the model/armature ready and then start applying the putty immediately. Working with the putty at this stage and throughout its setting period as it changes stiffness/feel gives you the maximum latitude in what you can achieve:
  • large changes (and easiest additions of wet putty) when it's soft and relatively fresh;
  • smaller changes about halfway (still some putty can be added);
  • finer details when it's quite stiff and close to setting (don't try to apply putty at this stage, it adheres very poorly).

Also remember you can of course carve, file and sand it as much as you like after it has hardened.

All of the heads in my signature were sculpted in MS, making use of its range or properties during the setting process.
