One of the main colours i use for my flesh tones is Rowneys Georgian Madder Brown and mine is sadly running out.Unfortunately Rowney don't make this colour anymore, but i nearly got a tube on e-bay from a Dutch guy who was selling his collection of oils, but i was too late.As i came soooo close to getting a tube i was wondering if anybody out there has a tube kicking about that they would be willing to sell.I've tried all other brands e.g. Brown Madder by W&N etc but it's not the same.I've been using this oil for over 20 years so if anybody can help i would be obliged.

Brian,
I cannot help you. For Brown Madder Alizarin from W&N is it the same. Out of production. I hope you will found a tube, but it's becoming very difficult.

Hi Marc
I have Brown Madder Alazarin but it's a lot different than the cheap georgian Madder Brown.Rowney got in touch with me and said it had been out of production for 10 years,so i'm hoping somebody has got a tube lying about .I live in hope!

Hi Brian, my basic advice in this kind of situation would be to learn to mix differently anyway and unless you can find a tube of the right vintage there's no guarantee that you'll get exactly the right colour. Similar to if someone wanted to stop using Alizarin Crimson because it's not lightfast enough, there's no need to try to find a paint that's as close to an exact match as possible. Apart from this being very hard or impossible (depending on the version one is used to, how fussy you are about "exactly the same") it's simply not necessary, since there are of course painters who don't use a paint of this colour.

If you want to continue to mix in the same way you're used to I'd suggest switching to something like Mars Brown or Burnt Umber, add a smidge of crimson or rose and you should get close enough to begin.
