Hi

I'm creating a smallish diorama on a wooden plinth using 'The old Pier' 1/35 scale kit from Reality in Scale.

I would welcome guidance from fellow FP readers on how to create a solid wall of resin on the plinth using some form of rectangular dam into which I can pour the resin. I am worried about the resin sticking to whatever material I use to create the dam. How do I stop this happening? If possible I want the resin to come up to the plinth's edge.

Some help on what Vallejo acrylic paint I can use to colour the resin would also be great. I am looking for an Atlantic stormy sea. Also how I provide an opaque colour base layer for the resin so that the wood grain of the plinth will not show through. I plan for the resin to come up around 5mm on the pier pilings. with waves above that.

I plan to use Vallejo 'Clear Water' resin and Deluxe 'Making Waves' for the water effects.

The plinth was made specially for me by Oakwood Studios.

The Vallejo resin is pliable when set, which means you can pour the water on a perfectly flat surface and when it sets up, remove it to apply to your finished base. Sheet plastic works perfect for making a dam to prevent the resin from leaking. I suggest using a piece of glass as your palette to pour the water. Around the edge of your sheet plastic dam, run a thin bead of epoxy putty (or any other suitable putty) to prevent any seepage from the resin from under it's bottom edge. Do various trial runs with a variety of colors added to find out what looks best to you. Good luck with your project!
