Thanks mick

Hi Mick,

You're right, 120mm is a difficult scale to create realistic vegetation. I would start by gathering as much information as you can about the vegetation in the Ardennes Forest at the time of year depicted in your dio, and then look for natural items that look similar. As always, the best type of scale vegetation come from real natural materials, so I'd start at your local florist shop and see what you can find. There are a number of manufacturers of scale paper plants such as Fredericus Rex and Paper Creative from Japan who make plants in 120mm, which may be OK to use in your dio. For leaf litter and ground cover, I use tea leaves from a tea bag and crushed herbs from the kitchen. These are natural products and cheap and easy to procure. They also add a pleasant aroma to your diorama:D

Hi Mick,
Like Tony has mentioned natural products, the best advice I was given was to go into your own garden, pick up suitable size stones, twigs, branches, foliage (dryed out) for plants etc. For grass I bought a 1Kg bag of this- horse and hog hair for upholstery, it worked out to be a carrier bag full.

It's cheap and can be cut to various lengths and the sprayed/painted what ever shades you require. Hope this gives you some food for thought.
cheers

Me again , Tony would you by any chance have a link to paper creative as I cant seem to find it, found some cool ways of making a praying mantis out of paper tho looking for it

Just had a look at both they look intersting the ivy and bracken look close to the gaps I need to fill thanks for taking the time to help me search ur right tho 120mm is the forgotten scale its not like theres a lack of a following for it, Reality in scale made noises about covering it last year but nowt happened 1/35 modellers are spoilt forchoice theres so many great items to be had in this scale and a huge gap in the market for larger scale modellers as it crosses over into the rc tank hobby as well

You can use a fern called Aspargus Plumosa for pinetrees. Its available in floristshops and comes as fresh, dried and preserved. Preserved is preferd. Get a stick and glue it bransch for bransch. It can be painted.

Ill give the florists a whirl I need some evergreen with it being the Ardeness, as for the ebay link ive been having the odd bits theyve been selling already going by what ive had so far and matching the scales up the bigger chestnut leaves are MASSIVE im gonna get em any way im sure they will come in handy

I wouldn't get to much stuck on scale Mick as grass and leaves don't grow to a set scale . A leaf from the same tree can be three times bigger from one part of the tree as another growing on a differrent branch , grass grows in clumps when it's not in a garden and the centre can be 12 inches high while the outer edge can be 3 inches .
Take a look around at nature not cultivated gardens !! . Fredrick Rexs do some very nice grasses in different sizes and all four seasons .
chippy
