Hi to all!!

I think that it will be interesting and useful for many of us, that someone expert, share a step by step article about to make scenic bases. Specially, I´m trying to imitate earth without painting it.
So I´ll appreciate if someone can help me in this topic and also expose different ideas.

Thank you very much in advance and for your attention.
Best regards,

Francisco

Earth without painting..>...
There is one solution that i had from a old shool book from Shep Paine.
Take some sand out of the garden, gutter or similar. Let it totally dry. When dry sif the to large stuff out of it.
Then take some whiteglue (elmers call it i suppoos), and a little water and stir it up. :)
Put it on the base where you want it. Let it dry and you have imitate earth without painting.

Francisco,
Using the method that Marc outlines you can control colours and shades by choice of raw material.
The only amendment I would suggest is to stain the white glue to a slightly darker shade than the silt / sand / debris that you use.
There's nothing looks worse than dried white glue showing through.
There are loads of places providing tutorials on Groundwork..... here's a couple of links to get you going.

Hi Francisco, there are lots of good ideas on here, look at how Brian Smith (Smudger) adds groundwork to his busts, and Sara Aziz (Saruxaxa) always has good ideas, and she's always willing to share them in an article. Marta Slusarska has some great stuff on her Blog, Twisted Brushes. But whatever you go for, a golden rule is "When you've spent all that time painting a great figure, don't skimp on the base!"
Best wishes, Gary.:)

Try getting in touch with fellow Planeteer Tiberius57 (Zeno). He does fantastic groundwork and even did a groundwork seminar at our local club meeting. Not only can he advise on technique but has great ideas on composition, design, context/story etc to really make groundwork an integral part of the figure display.

Check out his work on his vBench

Colin
