As a very nice and unexpected Christmas gift from my sister and her partner Phil I received this rather nice pocket watch, having trawled the net I believe it's WWII issue but info is the usual mish mash of fact and fiction so I thought I'd post it here and see what you guys could come up with about it. Inside the case there are some homemade engraving which may be official but I think are more likely done to prove ownership 4607/mg, 5108 cup mg 20-838/3/9 the latter is very faint indeed but I think that is what it reads. This is what I think seems the most accurate internet info so far http://forums.watchuseek.com/f7/info-wanted-english-military-helvetia-pocket-watch-216299.html All info gladly welcomed

the rear reads GS/TP not IP the T is badly worn and can't be made out in the picture

Nice pressie mate, better than a pair of socks or a DVD :)

This is a WW2 watch, they were civilian watches brought into service due to shortahes of supply, hence the GS/TP which stands for Genral Sevice Trade Pattern or Temporary Pattern.

Oh dont get any brain waves about licking the dial, those brown numbers are radium :wideyed::yuck::meh::depressed::hungover::lurking: Not so good for your long term health mate :D

Here is what I’ve done with the watch, I set the hands to 11 o clock as that seemed fitting for a WWII watch, in time I’ll try and get a little plaque to put on the bottom as well. Soz about the weird angle it's mounted a little high so was on tip toes heh
