I am thinking of painting heraldry on my next figure (120mm). Not decided whether to paint it in oils or acrylics. My concern is that if I paint a motif such a fleur d lis on the acrylic base coat it makes it a easier to correct but I paint in oils so when I lay my oil base coat I need to outline the motif but I am afraid of obscuring the details with the oils. If I take the other approach and paint the motif when the clothes have been completed I run the risk of ruing all my previous work. I am thinking of using thinned oils so that they can be corrected with a bit of thinner. So any suggestions. Basically the thought of painting this scares me ;)

Don't let the fear of messing up slow you down. Go for it.
Paint the base coat of your fleur de lys in acrylic with any shading, highlight or detail in your usual oils.

Modo Fac!

Talino, search this site. There are a number of threads on how to paint heraldry and what to do first, whether painting in oils or acrylics.

That first brush stroke is the hardest! Don't let fear of the unknown keep you from being the best you can be. Good luck.
