This miniature is going to stir waters. Sculpted by Pedro Férnandez and here painted by Fernando Ruiz.

Let the drum roll a little bit first: And here is one of the most obvious, yet never made, miniature busts:

There must be somewhere an originality award to give to this piece: A stunning small scale bust of a very beautiful Vietnamese guerrilla fighter.

Let the talk begun! Cheers! :)

Very nice release of a subject that has never been done before (as far as I'm aware).

I am returning, just would to empathize one small, however important point :)

In a world plagued with awkward female busts with one exposed breast the size of a soccer ball and one nipple the size of a tangerine, I would like sculptors out there to appreciate the elegance Pedro Fernández Ramos placed in this sculpt.

Following the link provided previously by Rich and H&V, Pepa Saavedra stunning paint is awesome:

This is the way to go guys! Beautiful women don't need to have over sized shapes neither unnecessary naked breasts floating to the viewer.

Elegance is sublime and was perfectly achieved here! Definitively one for the cart!

I'm sorry, but this bust still to me portrays a "glamazon" - she has Angelina Jolie's lips and big doe-like eyes. The fact that she has both breasts covered is a relief. What's wrong with showing a female Vietcong guerrilla fighter who looks unglamorous and determined rather that she's posing on the front cover of Vanity Fair?

Don't get me wrong, the sculpting and the painting are top class, but for me this is a Hollywood version of the subject.

I understand what you are saying Tony: She is posing for the camera, isn't she? :)

As a matter of fact, most male busts, about 99% of them are also posing for the camera. But in a man's way - "look how tough I am, dude". Gals are gals - and no matter where, they normally don't pose this way. They always do that delicious trick "look how pretty good looking I am, dude".

She is beautiful, is that forbidden for a Vietcong gal? :)

In our western society the very first image that comes to our minds of a Vietnamese Woman is unquestionably this:

The shocking image was masterfully translated to cinema in Platoon most dramatic scene. Oliver Stone, in fact, has several parallelisms between some of the most striking photos and his film: Death of Elias is another example.

What we, here in the west must also face, is that some, or many of these women were also beautiful. There are beautiful women all across earth, and while I can't define this concept of beauty - there is something so exquisite about people's faces that slightest changes in our shapes create some striking beautiful people, and other changes make some others so ugly. In the middle, there are millions of ordinary people no one looks back.

Well, in wartimes a beautiful woman may get a combat semblance such as this, still retaining her cute face:

Or this striking scary face. Most probably it could outcome a great alternative for this bust offering:

Nevertheless, the regime's propaganda of the time showed some incredibly good looking Vietnamese combatants:

Well, war is really the most stupid invention of mankind! Don't we all think so? :) There are far much better things to do in life!

Nice one,! The subject was due, and still many more possibilities waiting to be done. From the photos it looks the neck can be easily adjusted to a more 'ordinary' position.
