Hi all thought I would sign up to the forum, I normally build scale wooden ships, currently got Amati's 1:250 RMS Titanic and a part work kit of The Sovereign of the Seas.
Now I am looking at trying something new in between builds and having seen some of the work in model busts and full figure I am hoping to try one myself so am trawling the internet etc getting all the info into what looks like a very varied and interesting hobby, trying to decide on a scale to begin with I am thinking bigger the better to begin or would that mean too much detail?

Hi there

Big welcome to PF , might I suggest you have a look at 75mm figures and 1/12th scale busts , both middle of the range in size but with all the details .

Feel free to ask anything here lots of advice available .

Look forward to seeing your work ...most of all enjoy what you do

Ahoy !

Welcome.

There are some wonderful things to buy and try featured here.

Are you thinking of continuing the Naval theme?
Apart from the newer stuff on here, there's plenty more about.
For example, Victory Miniatures near Portsmouth, he has some great Nelsonian gun crew figures.

Whatever you try, you will get helpful encouragement here.

All the best.

Paul.

Welcome , and when you decide on your figure project let us all know what you have gone for.
I believe that very large figures can be more difficult to paint for a beginner - try 75mm to start and see how your eyes cope.
Cheers

Hi Aracnan,

Welcome to Planet Figure. There's no shortage of great quality busts and figures out at the moment, and especially those with a naval/ nautical theme.

Hope to see some examples of your work.
