Hi all !

Allow me to show you my latest bust - young Roman cavalry champion of
Hippika Gymnasia 3d century AD.
1/9
Mixed media- sculpey firm, magic sculp, green stuff, copper wire. 7 parts
(also paper ribbons just to illustrate the idea how it is intended)

Its hard to add anything new to plethora of Roman busts available and I wanted to do something fresh and outside of standard. I was also fascinated by Crosby Garret helmet that was found few years ago in area I live. It made a foundation for the idea.

My special thanks go to Hans here on PF who helped immensely with research.

As a little reference about Hippika - have a look here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippika_gymnasia

I cursed myself at least 7 times on the way for choosing such a complex task, as I had to succeed with making young, Roman looking face and the helmet is quite specific so it required a lot of likeness.
I hope I managed. I certainly gained many levels on the way. How does it always look better in life than on picture???

Thank you for looking.

епта. Ну наконец то.
Я бы посоветовал чууууууууууууууть чуть увеличить подбородок с низу, и немного подрезать нижнюю губу. Но это на мой как говорится вкус.

Cool idea with the helmet! Very unique item!
Besides great detailing of the armour and nice roman face!
Congratulations!

REALLY nice work and something "different" to the usual Roman buts / figures we see - I love it!

Hi Gaudin,
You have captured that classical look spot on. I really like the hair and those facial features make him look assured, focused and determined. The helmet is a work of art in it's own right.
One off or commercial? Nice to see some of your work.(y)
cheers
Richie

Gary, Hans, Richie, Steve - thank you!

Richie- yep, I am most prolific this time of year :) if only I could do this full time...
It could be commercial if people want it, I'd be very happy for it to go out.

Hi Gaudin ,

This is a cracking sculpt to say the very least and the helmet is a work of art , I really like the way you have captured the youthfulness of the subject , hairstyle spot on , parade armour looks great as well .

Please put me down for one if it goes commercial , its good to see something different from the Roman subjects ....and will certainly be a colourful piece and an interesting display piece.

Happiness is having a bust in front of you(y)

More please

A great piece and I like the fact you got inspiration from your locality. It was a terrible loss that the County lost out to a private individual at the auction.Undoubtedly your best sculpting yet, very fine indeed.
