The Historical Figure Modelling Society of Western Australia (HMFS) has after 10 years of operation, decided to close down due to dwindling attendances and lack of members. We were the only figure modelling club in Australia - and now we're gone.

This is incredibly sad news for those of us in Western Australia who love figure modelling. We now have to join clubs that have bloody airplane and armour modellers :nailbiting: and listen to them prattle on about rivets and aerofoils and other nonsense.:arghh:

My sadness is tempered by the fact that Planet Figure provides me with a global figure modelling club full of the best painters and sculptors.

Any WA based figure modellers who want to remain in touch with former HMFS members are invited to come along on Saturday afternoons to the Scale Model Club of WA in Noranda.

Hi Tony,

Maybe the internet and escalating cost of travel is having the same effect on clubs as it is the high street?, I think the same is happening at shows with dwindling attendances and less support from Suppliers. Manufacturers and Distributors can sell their products without leaving the Office. The positive about the Internet is that we can all keep in touch in a way that 20 years ago we could only dream about. Forums such as PF also draw in modellers who never have attended shows or joined clubs.

Sad news though Tony, I travel 5 Hours and 250 miles about 6 times a year to a thriving UK Figure only Club, nothing like an afternoon spent with like minded individuals with a passion for figures(y)Keith

I feel your pain Tony.
At our IPMS we had a one and half hour talk on the full blown configuration of the Buccaneer.
Feel free to take notes here.
;)

Sad news indeed Tony. I've started attending our local IPMS meetings and there are a couple of figure modellers and I'm working on the rest of them! ;)

I just caught up with Ben Flood (figurelover) and Nick Mulligan (NickM) for a coffee. We three refugees from our figure modelling club will now be meeting at each others homes on a rotating basis each month and keeping the flame alive.

Hard to know what caused our club to decline and die but its not a lack of talent or passion.

Silly me, I thought you meant Pirates! Seriously though, it's a real shame to hear about your club. Just remember
that even with a tiny membership, the club is still alive, you have to hold your breath and wait for better times!
Best wishes, Gary.

You guys are in the same place we are in southwestern Ontario. Except you are going from a club down to rotating home meetings while we are going from nothing. We also have the choice to hook up with various local IPMS chapters or the formerly excellent and now toy soldier-centric Ontario Model Soldier Society. Meeting a few kindred spirits at home is better IMO. Good luck keeping the flame alive.
