I'm just researching my next project and it's the absolutely fantastic 120mm Hougoumont diorama in four parts from Gordon Mitchell and Carl Reid. I have two and expect the third any day.

I'm building my own gates and part of the wall based on measurements and photographs of the reconstructed farm Cobblestone track through the gates and muddy grass surrounding owing to rainfall the night before and a bit of debris here and there. I just need the fourth set to plan the final size (the French).

Now the question

Would the gate gates have been painted? Any ideas?

This set piece Should be very good. However it is a BIG pity that Sgt Graham has not been included,
It has been argued that if it were not for his actions the gates would have been lost.
After the battle the Duke himself proclaimed him one of the bravest men on the field that day,
Maybe you could be tempted to convert one of the privates into a Sgt.

There was a 120mm Coldstream Sergeant figure available from Stormtroopers a few years back. I don't know if it's still available from them or if it was one of the figures sold on to Foxwood. The figure was sculpted by Moz Corry and depicts the Sergeant loading a musket. Without checking I'm not sure if the sculpt is compatible, in style or size, with the current series from Carl Reid.
Also there were some 120mm British Line Infantry Sergeant figures sculpted by Moz Corry, and I believe one from Pete Morton, in a "Defending the Colours" series from Mitches Military Models. Again I'm not sure of the availability.
Sorry that's all a bit vague.

I've finally got around to checking the relative sizes of the above figures to those in the Hougoumont set. The figure from Stormtroopers is definitely larger. The most suitable from the Defending the Colours set would be the bareheaded colour sergeant although it might require a little change in uniform details. The pose on that figure would allow it to fit perfectly. That figure doesn't appear to be currently available from MMM but if Gordon or Ross are reading this...
