How you store the brushes

Hello Guys,

After finding myself buying again new brushes i think i do something wrong.
I keep my brushes with the plastic over the hairs layering in a desklawer.
Finding the brush for the painting task is time consuming, so i am tyred off all this.
So how do you keep your brushes as good as new (cleaning is no problem)when you store them, and witch system you have for that.
Maybe some picture's....

Hello again Marc.

Stuff like this has been mentioned before on the Planet and different people look after their brushes in differnet ways. I do find myself that some brushes do seem to last longer than others.

I generally clean mine twice, first in white spirit then again in soap.

I've never really had a particulr storage method

I keep mine in several old drinking glasses with the "business end" pointing up. If I don't use the brush often, I keep the plasitc sleeve on it like you do.

Is your problem that they are disorganized? If so, I do organize them in the different glasses by size and use. Hope this helps, Marc.

All my Kolinsky and sable rounds I keep standing in a number of jars on the desk - subdivided by brand(s) - most of them with the plastic tubes to protect the hairs.

That's what i gonna do now. Instead of laying in a lawer.

I am similar to Enion, I do also tend to use brushes in rotation , although I do have my favourites, I don't use teh same brush for mixing as i do painting if you know what I mean.

I don't use white spirit on an acrylic brush, I also keep oil and acrylic, metallic brushes seperate.

I find also that when a brush is fit for the knacker's yard and is no good for actual painting, I use it for mixing the oils. It's ideal.

I have taken to gently running hair conditioner on my WN7 in the hope this will increase their life . Instead of rinsing it off then and there, I leave on to dry. And, when I want to use the brush again, I will rinse it off.

This seems to give an added benefit of keeping the brush dust free. I find that just putting the tubes on does not seem to keep the dust out.

And, stored up right in a 3 jelly jars segregated by acrylic, oil and metals.

Hi Marc,

I first clean my brushes in white spirit and then again in soap after.

Ones a month ore so i rub them in some greasy skin lotion en shape them, afther that i let them dry opsite down on a rubber band and a nail ore something.

Yep, that should definitely help Keith.

There are lots of options in the Kolinsky department if you haven't tried alternatives, many of the cheaper ones are well worth it.

This is what is called a Lazy Susan in English, never seen one made by hand before

We see more of your impressive paint collection in the previous photo too, do you use the System 3 for modelling?

No the system 3 is a verry good and smooth paint to use but not for moddeling because it gifs a shine wen it is dried.

the system 3 is what you can call a moneyspender,
or also used as decoration or wallpaper or something ..
not for painting anyways..
