I have the Metal Modeles fig of the 10th Hussars Regt. elite company 1808 but I want to paint him up as 4th hussars.
Is the pattern of trousers peculier to the 10th or was this pattern worn by all Hussars?
The face is nearly done, just a bit of tinkering here and there. I had a bit of a disaster when putting this together. I had used a sharp scalpel blade behind the moulded on tash and tweaked it forward. Excellent idea looks tons better.
Went to glue the head on , dropped the head both ends of the tash fall off. Made a new tash from milliput. What else could go wrong.........The tassle fell off the the piped bag on the busby. All fixed The fully painted pic is the box art from Metal Models for the illustration of the over trousers.

I think your new flamboyant moustache is better than the original and you’ve managed to make the hussar look quite jolly – unlike the sombre-looking box art. And why not?

Welcome to the butter fingers club. I think either I or one of my feline friends has decisively broken the last four kits I worked on....two finished, two abandonned. Looks nice so far.

Thanks for the comment Jeff, this is a very testing figure. nearly never got painted.

Hi Bob.
As an aside, are you aware of any regulation/tradition dictating which side the colpack bag or flamme should hang?
Jon

Hi John,
I'm looking at the Rousselot plates on Hussars and the bag hangs on the right, I have decided to go for the 8th, around 1809 as I will not have to change the sabretache because of the metal plate.

Hi Bob

Nice start to the figure. Glad to read others have accidents and then have to repair the damage - I do this all the time!

Cheers

Hello Bob,
One must be very careful when generalizing about the details of Napoleonic Era uniforms. They are delightfully non-uniform which is also frustrating at the same time. Per maitres Rousselot and Rigo, the 4th Hussars did NOT have leather re-enforcements on the inside of the legs of the 'charivari'. Neither did those of the 3rd & 5th regiments. The remaining hussar regiments did apparently have the leather but not all with the hounds teeth or 'festoons'. If you would like the titles of their works that I referenced, please let me know.

Hi Jaybo,
I have gone for the 8th Hussars, around the date 1809, As you say it is a minefield of regulations and non-regulation uniforms.
I would be grateful to have the reference you quote. In any event paint stripper works wonders. Althogh this has come out Orange I should be scarlet.

Thanks again

Bob

Hi Bob,
You are correct. Napoleonic uniforms aren't very 'uniform' if you will. I specifically referenced two sources: 1-a series of the Rousselot plates which you have partially referred to in your attachment. 2- the wonderful work by 'RIGO' (Albert Rigonard)-'La Cavalrie Legere du Premier Empire' by Histoire & Collections. They are both mandatory in my opinion. I have several other works in the genre. In fact my library is so relatively vast that sometimes I forget what I own! If you ever have a question feel free to send me an e-mail.

Hi Jaybo,
Thanks for the info, I had not heard of Rigonard so will have to search him out.
Thanks again

This little project is coming around nicely Bob!

Joe

Thanks Joe,
He is coming along, will have to post an update tonight

Thanks again
Bob

Update, the figure has been under coated in acrylic and now painting in oil. The leather on the trousers has been painted, burnt umber oils and highlighted with naples yellow will also use some burnt sienna. Looks untidy at the moment, hope that will change when it's finished.
Thanks for looking

Regards
Bob

Looking good so far Bob. I assumed the dog-tooth pattern was moulded on the figure, if not it was well painted on the box-art.
( I've not heard of Albert Rigonard either )
