Lovely painting but while not claiming I could produce work to this standard, I do think the hands – the left in particular – look skeletal.

Hi Nap,

To me, the hands look extremely emaciated and far too thin for the remainder of the figure. The modelling shows ridges to suggest stitching on the backs of gloves which would add thickness to the fingers but that isn’t apparent here. I feel the modelled fingers would be too thin even if they had no covering; the fact that they”re gloved makes them look out of proportion to my eyes.

Perhaps the figure really is a “Hussard de la Mort”!

I saw early releases of this at FW in the summer - lovely crisp detailing on the lacework, looks great painted up, Rob!

Jeff , I see where you are coming from but having the bust in my fingers they are true to scale ..gloves were very thin anyway and maybe our hussar had skinny fingers !!!!!
