Bruno has sent me a report on the recent Ingolstadt Show held back in April along with some photos of the ceremonies and figures. Here is his report:
5. International Figurine Show
Duke of Bavaria 2005
Historical Museum of the Bavarian Army, Ingolstadt
For the 5th time, the international figurine show “Duke of Bavaria” was held at the “Historical Museum of the Bavarian Army” at the City of Ingolstadt, about 50 km north of the city of Munich. It was now the 4th time, that the show had the fortune to be placed in the Army Museum, which is a real great place for a figurine show. The museum is housed in the medieval castle of Ingolstadt, erected around 1200 and gives the show a very special atmosphere.
The Museum offers a journey through the military history of Bavaria, one of the oldest states in Europe. The exhibition of the museum starts with the medieval time and ends up with the Franco – Prussian war 1870/71. Nearby is a fortification of the war of the 30 years, called “Réduite Tilly” with a large permanent exhibition of the First World War.
Like every year, the show was opened on Friday afternoon by the director of the Museum Herr Dr. Aichner and Bruno Schmäling, the President of the Foundation Artist & Figurine Germany e.V.
Like every year we had special guests invited to our show, this were Viktor Konnov from Russia, Mauricio Bruno from Italy, Ray Ferrugia from Malta and Bernard Pequet from France who kindly accepted our invitation. Every special guest shows his figurines in a cabinet, together with the figurines of the members of the organisation. Our special guests are also invited to do a seminar, normally for 2 hours for our visitors.
The show had around 650 figurines in competition. For the judging we use the “American Open System” with 4 to 0 points for the figurines.
The awarding ceremony was held at the “Hall of the Flags and Drums” were all surviving flags and drums of the Bavarian Army on display. The oldest flag dates back to 1500 and there is also the only Bavarian flag, which was brought home from the Napoleonic Russian campaign in 1813.
The “Duke of Bavaria” 2006 will be held from the 28.04.2006 – 30.04.2006. The web site of the German figurine scene is www.hz-forum.de; the web site of our show is www.Ingolstadt-herzog-von-bayern.de. Our “Förderverein Künstler & Figur, Kulturhistorische Zinnfinguren e.V.” is a registered Non Profit Organization in Germany.
