I was very surprised as I saw that figure here at planetfigure, because I know the sculptor and had thougth I knew every figure from him.

But ordered the figure seeing him during a workshop and got the figure very quick. And here my review.

He used white metal for the figure, only one part of the lance is out of brass. The parts fit together very good and the engravings on the stone are superb. I find the pose with the wind coming from the side very natural and I like it.

This figure will not be hidden in my grey army but she is on my workbench and waiting to get some paint.

I think a must have for every viking fan and I think for mysely highly recommended

I'm laughing in this moment because I had the same idea to do some pics of this figure for a review in Pf. I'm agree with you it is a fine sculpt and an original subject , different from the most of the vikings usually produced with always the same ironmail and helmet..the common viking was without these armours because were very expensive in that period. The stone with the rune incription compliments the figure very much. As I'm a fan of vikings I will soon put in my workbench too ...

cheers

Hi Stefano

I have thought the same as you. It is not such a viking as usual

What will you make with the stone? I am thinking about to sculpt the other side too

Ulrich

Hello Ulrich, I'm not sure about it but It seems to me that Ingvar Egilsson was a sweden wich made a rune incription to commemorate his son who died in the land of the greeks and I don't know if the sculptor made the stone copying exactley the original with the rune incription..i have to look at my books about viking to find it..
I have ordered this figure from Ribbecke Miniaturen , it is Erik the red . I don't know who is the sculptor ..you know if it is another from Martin Hille ?

Yes, your are right. Martin Hille made the vikings for Ribbecke too. I have read that the incription is a copy from a real stone, but can´t find at the moment where a I have read that. I am too old but perhaps I can remember

Have you seen the viking engraving the stone from Martin Hille at the Ribbecke Miniaturen?

And have you seen the new germanic prisoner on Kellerkind internet side?

Two beautiful figures.

Ulrich

Could this be the inspiration of the Rhunestone (Runsten in Swedish)?

This picture is from Fotevikens Musuem and I suspect that this is not an original. Could however be based on a real finding but I would need to know more to determind it.

The character Ingvar Egilsson does not ring a bell and nothing shows up googling the name.

Hi Janne ,Yes I think this could be the inspiration .. thank you for sharing the pic . I remember i read something about Ingvar Egilsson and perhaps about his inscription for his son ..but i'm not totally sure ..I have a lot of pubblications on the viking era and i have to find where i read about him..

cheers

Found it.

And Janne is right. On the backside of the Figure-box Martin write: It is made after a "copy of a stone in the viking museum in Foteviken Sweden"

:D:D:D I was looking in the web to find the stone....and i have the source inside the figurine box... that's funny !!

Stefano. Same problem as I. I know that I had read it, but don´t know where and the box was laying in front of me  I am old

Martin just told me that the name "Ingvar Egilsson" is not a historic name. He thought that that name sounds allright

Sounds right, thats for sure, due to the naming customs during that era.

Stefano:
Perhaps you are thinking of Ingvar Vittfarnes travel into the far east which is well documented in stones all over Sweden mostly Uppland due to the many men that never made it back?
