Dear fellow painters,

after the warm and friendly reception of my movie character busts and figures I dare to show you my first steps with figure painting and base design.

I like the Dragon and Tamiya figures in 1/16 scale a lot as they offer a great quality for an affordable price. I painted 4 of the Dragons and the Tamiya-Rommel so far but I collected all the figure kits Dragon has sold until today. Sooner or later some more will follow...

The painting on all figures has been done with Vallejo Acrylics. The bases have been made from styrofoam, clad with Faller cardboard from the model railroad section. I would not repeat this solution any more. Any kind of wooden base seems far more worthy.

Here we go!

Of course the camo-scheme is far from being correct. I was not really aware of the structure of the splinter camo pattern back then.

This figure was the first one I used an alternative head out of resin for. I wanted a more dramatic expression of the face.

That's it for now. Maybe you like my early jobs as well. If you have comments please feel free to post them, but please consider that I learned a lot since the days I made these vignettes.

Have a nice weekend!

Cheers, Ulf

Great stuff Ulf.

I think your bases are really eyecatching.

I keep all my bases plain black so when I display them at a show, the different shapes and sizes do not matter.

This clever theme of stone effect does the same.
I built some Wermacht figuresfor a friend and cast some big plaster blocks in a lego mould that when painted and distressed looked like cast and splinter camouflaged concrete.

That could be another option to try as the weight of the plaster base gave a lot of support to the figures.

Thank you, Paul!
When I made those bases my idea appeared clever to myself as well but I got comments from various sides stating that it would look dirt cheap - from my today's point of view I have to admit, they were right...
Your methods are interesting as well.

Cheers Ulf
