Wotcha, a friend of mine has asked if I'd do some commission work for him, now, I'm not particularly au fait with this aspect of the hobby and the commission itself is unusual. It's two Buddhist statues, one 15" and one 6". Now I'm not concerned with making profit but what do you chaps think I should be charging to make up for time and materials?

Should really charge a daily rate rather than hourly. Then add cost of supplies that you will need. Hourly rates are impossible to work out when you don't know how many hours it'll take.

Always get a deposit before starting to so you have cash to pick up needed supplies.

Don't under sell yourself.

Last quote I gave someone was the cost of miniature, plinth, primer, couple of basing details they asked about (not texturing stuff as I have plenty anyway). Then I doubled it as it would take my time. That hugely under sold what my time is worth but even that they didn't go for. You find people don't realise how much work actually goes into painting something.
