Having recently visited the site of the Battle of the Boyne in the South of Ireland for the second time and coming away with the idea of maybe painting some figures or busts to represent some of the various solders who took part in the battle, I ordered a couple of Osprey publications so that I could identify the uniforms with the intention of seeking figures or busts, subjects from that period that could be used with or without some minor conversion.
I guess I am reaching out to any of our PF members who would have the historical knowledge to point me in the direction of suitable figures or busts.

Thanks guys I have had a look at both links and there is certainly a lot of reference material that will be useful along with books and of course google, now that I have this idea in my head it's just a matter of trying to find the figures and busts that can be used even if they are from different armies around the same period and can be converted without to much work, unfortunately me eyes will struggle with anything smaller than 90mm.
I live in Northern Ireland and the fall out that was left behind from the 1690 battle is still with us today, even though everyone who had anything to do with the 1690 campaign has gone home lol, I am not looking at this project from a political angle, I simply think that as a figure painter the subject that is more or less on my doorstep and involved so many armies with their colourful uniforms is worth looking at as a project.
Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

Sarnia Miniarures do a very nice bust of an English Civil War Musketeer (And very reasonably priced too) that could, with a little work (mainly the hat), could be made to represent regiments from the Boyne.
Equally Lost Battalion Miniatures do a lovely musketeer in 120mm that , again, could be made to represent someone from the period (the coat would need to be lengthened….a fairly easy job).
Stormtroopers also produced a nice bust of a musketeer but sadly it’s long out of production.
im sure I’ve seen some great models of Swedish musketeers and Pikeman that could be converted, but I can’t for the life of me remember who produces them (I’m sure I’ve seen then reviewed on PF and I think it was one of the Russian manufacturers!). Put it down to old age but perhaps someone else can point us both in the right direction
hope this helps.

A valuable source of reference

Hi Guys this is all welcome and very helpful information, even if the figures that are being referred too aren't exactly what I am after I am getting the general idea of what could be converted as well as points of reference that are well worth checking out such as the Men At Arms Book which I had missed when looking for books.
It could take a while to grab what I need in the way of subjects to convert and paint but I will keep you all posted along the way.

Terry, I know you said that you cannot cope with 54mm any more (something I share and sympathise with!) but for the sake of completeness I’d like to mention a range of figures being produced for Troop54 (Stormtroopers) for the War of Spanish Succession that could, with a little work (again) pass for the Boyne. See the Sculpting forum on PF . I believe Stu(?) from Stormtroopers (please forgive me if I’ve got that wrong) is a member here on PF.

…….and don’t forget Pintest. A great source of reference ….but you might have to dig around a bit!
My last word…promise!
