Hi guys,
hope you like the pics so far of my latest large scale sculpt (200mm) of a Japanese infantryman in winter dress, Russo-Japanese War, 1905. Based on the illustrations in the Osprey book, he is depicted in the goat fur lined overcoat, with the winter forage cap. I have had a rubber mould made from the original Plasticine sculpt, a resin model cast, then detailed with Miliput, etc. There is still much to do, both facially and equipment details, especially the fit of the head to neck, but I hope to get it all completed over the Easter break!
cheers,
Steve(y)

I remember coming across this Osprey illustration in the past, seems 2oth century Japanese military is not often covered, its a good subject choice with that goat fur collar which is sculpted very nicely.
Will look forward to seeing more of this one.

All the best mate

Steve

Hi Steve,
now I really like this matey, that little Osprey book has a lot to answer for, excellent photographs of the period,I did have a book illustrated history of the Russo-Japanese war,do you think I can find it,not a chance.
As a kid I loved looking through this book,I guess the era and the images stuck in my head, always nice to see some one else's muse with putty on a loved era(y)
Best Regards

You have captured the features of the race really nicely and the very distinctive pouches are coming on a treat .

Cheers Guys, thanks for the comments! I think its the transitional aspect that appeals in these "far away" colonial style conflicts, the mix of old and new uniforms and equipment. Glad you like it, so far!
